During the transportation, storage, and use of activated carbon, certain aspects require special attention. Failure to do so may lead to product failure or other safety issues. Below are the precautions for the transportation, use, and storage of activated carbon!

  1. Transportation and Handling:
    During transportation, avoid dragging activated carbon with iron hooks. Prevent mixing with hard materials, and avoid strong vibrations, friction, stepping, crushing, or throwing. Handle with care during loading and unloading to minimize particle breakage, which could affect performance. For certain types, such as columnar activated carbon, avoid actions like throwing, stepping, or heavy impacts to prevent product breakage during transportation and handling.

  2. Installation and Use:
    Before filling, sieve out fine particles and dust generated during handling. Spread the material evenly in layers, avoiding direct pouring from the feed port to prevent uneven filling of particles, which could cause gas channeling and reduce effectiveness. After filling, purge the system before startup to remove dust adhering to the surface of the activated carbon, preventing dust from entering downstream processes and affecting normal production.

  3. Prevention of Tar-like Substances:
    During use, avoid allowing tar-like viscous substances to enter the activated carbon bed, as they can block pores or cover the surface, preventing gas contact and reducing effectiveness. If the gas contains such substances, remove them before the gas enters the activated carbon bed (preferably using tar removal equipment) to ensure optimal performance.

  4. Storage Methods:
    Store in a cool, dry place, and avoid damaging the inner and outer packaging to prevent moisture absorption and adsorption of other substances from the air, which could affect performance. Do not store with toxic, harmful gases, or volatile substances, and keep away from pollution sources.

  5. Avoid Water Immersion:
    Activated carbon is a porous adsorbent material, so it must be protected from water immersion during transportation, storage, and before use. Water immersion fills the pores, reducing the specific surface area and direct contact with gases, significantly impacting performance.

  6. Fire Prevention:
    During storage or transportation, avoid direct contact with fire sources to prevent ignition. During regeneration, prevent oxygen ingress and ensure thorough regeneration. After regeneration, cool with steam to below 800°C. Otherwise, high temperatures combined with oxygen may cause spontaneous combustion of the activated carbon.

  7. Safety Guidelines:
    Wet activated carbon removes oxygen from the air, and oxygen depletion in a sealed container can create a toxic environment. If workers need to enter containers containing activated carbon for sampling or work in low-oxygen spaces, they must comply with relevant national standards and operational regulations.
